FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • The Perfect Draft controls the flame in the fire box of offset smokers. It operates manually ( where you control the speed of the fan ), or on auto. On auto, the Perfect Draft adjusts the fan speed automatically, based on the temperature reading from the probe. As the temperature falls below the range you select, the fan speed ramps up, which increases the heat output of the fire. Once the temperature you selected is reached, the fan slows down to avoid overheating your smoke chamber.

  • The Perfect draft was designed to fit onto almost any offset smoker made today. Every offset smoker has an external firebox, attached to a smoking chamber. The firebox always has an air intake vent. While some of these vent holes are very large and require modification to fit the Perfect Draft, the concept always remains the same, which is why we are able to work with almost every offset smoker made today ( standard production and custom built )

  • The Perfect Draft requires on small hole to be drilled for the safety hook. Installation time is 5-10 minutes total. If you would prefer not to drill a hole in your smoker, you can purchase a universal mounting hook, which bolts on over your vent. This adds approximately 5 minutes to your install time, but allows you to remove the Perfect Draft with no changes to your smoker.

  • Yes, one of the most common reasons we struggle to start a fire, is a lack of airflow. You can turn the Perfect Darft on manual, and adjust the speed of the airflow to get your fire cranked up in record time!

  • Meat that is cooked on a smoker without proper airflow often has an acrid taste to it. Many professionals say this can be seen by smoke that is white/gray in color, while clearer smoke ( with a light blue tint ) brings out more of the flavor of the meat. The key to clear smoke is proper air flow, and the key to proper air flow is the Perfect Draft!

  • A lot of smokers have hot a cold sections - mainly due to the lack of consistency in the path of the air/smoke flow. This can lead to challenges while cooking. The Perfect Draft overcomes this by allowing you to control the airflow into the fire box, which transfers to the smoking chamber. Consistent airflow provides you the most even and consistent smoking experience!

  • Smoking is not meant to be quick, and that is what gives smoked meat the unbeatable attributes that it has. With that said, a smoker without good airflow can take excessive time to fully finish a cook, resulting in wasted time. The Perfect Draft ensures that you are in control, and that the meat is being smoked at the exact temp you want, with the best air flow. The result is you are in control, and can cook the meat as fast or slow a you want it to - without wasting a moment of time!

  • The Perfect Draft improves the airflow over your fire. The better the airflow, the better the combustion, and the better the combustion, the more efficient the fire. Some of our users notice a dramatic difference, and others still notice an improvement - but not as drastic. Either way, you can be assured that a fire with proper airflow is a more efficient burn.

  • We have not done any formal testing related to the improved health factor ( and therefore we make no precise claims ). What we do know is that a smoldering flame with incomplete combustion forms CO - which is unhealthy, and this runs through the airflow channels and over your meat. The Perfect Draft supplies the needed oxygen to control the flame, and provide it the correct atmosphere needed. The results in a cleaner burn, and less CO being transferred to your meat.

  • No. The Perfect Draft saves time by constantly adjusting the airflow, based on the temperature reading from the probe - but it does not relieve you of the responsibility during your cook. This saves a lot of time by keeping the temperature even through controlled airflow. This results in a lot less "baby sitting" and a lot less trips to check on your temps. Keep in mind, you are still responsible to refuel your fire box, and control your outlet damper

  • The average battery run is 17 hours. This is variable based on the amount of time the fan is running, and the speed it is running. Under normal circumstances, the unit is not running non-stop at max speed, but in the event it does, the run time would be less. The unit will run while charging if need be.

  • The probe is 8 feet long, and comes with a clip to attach to the grate in your smoker.

  • The Perfect Draft comes with a 5" steels adapter/extension bracket. For most smokers, this works fine because the firebox is not reaching a temperature over 400 degrees. If your firebox runs hotter than 400 degrees, you can create an extension on your own to move the blower unit farther away from your firebox. If your fan has melted, it means you allowed your firebox to get over 400 degrees - and this is not covered by warranty.

  • No. Normally the airflow outlet is used to lower the temperature in a smoking chamber, by constricting the airflow coming out of the smoker. The Perfect Draft will stop supplying air once the desired temperature is reached, but it will not stop the temperature from rising is excessive fuel is in the firebox. This can be control by adjusting the airflow outlet damper on your smoker.
